Twenty years ago “strength training” pretty much meant weight lifting. Working your muscles against resistance to make them bigger and stronger. Now strength training has evolved to encompass many different modalities involving numerous types of equipment. From old school stuff like kettlebells and climbing ropes, to interactive sparring equipment, bulgarian bags, gladiator walls and on and on. The explosion of information sharing has accelerated development of new ways to train.
Strength training now includes ways to increase flexibility and improve integrity of connective tissue for stronger joints. It is not just about muscles but about moving better. There is more emphasis on getting your body to perform for specific sports and activities and to move safely through life in general. It has become strength, power, endurance and mobility training.
